First Time Visit

No experience is required to climb at Spirit Rock.

Anyone climbing for the first time at Spirit Rock will require waivers to completed. Adults must sign their own waivers and are considered 19 years of age or older in BC.

Children must have waivers completed by their parent or legal guardian.

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by adult at all times.

You do NOT need to book ahead to climb. We are open for drop-in and you can purchase a day pass and rent all the equipment if you don't have your own. Day passes are good for the whole day and you can come and go as you please.

For NEW Climbers: we provide a quick orientation to our facility including how to use our auto-belay systems. New climbers also have access to our bouldering area. Take a look at our courses to learn how to use the roped areas.

For EXPERIENCED Climbers: In addition to the auto-belays and bouldering area, we have top-rope and lead climbing options. First time visitors must take a free belay test to use the ropes (either top rope or lead). Tests are pass/fail and must demonstrate competent skills without any assistance from others. Take a look at our courses if you are interested in more advanced skills.

The Types of Climbing:
Bouldering
is climbing low, short routes with no ropes.  There is a big cushioned mattress underneath you as fall protection.  This style of climbing is referred to as bouldering, since it began outdoors on boulders no more than 8 to 15 feet tall.
We also have Kilter board which is an adjustable angle wall that uses LED lights and bluetooth to connect to your phone. With the Kilter app, you have access to over 60,000 boulder problems for endless training possibilities.

Auto-belays are automated ropes anchored at ceiling height that let you climb to the top without a partner. When you let go or fall off, you are automatically lowered slowly to the ground. We have five of these devices, across a range of difficulties.

Roped climbing is what most people think of when they think of rock climbing. Rope climbing involves climbing walls with the assistance of a partner who is belaying (ie. managing the rope to ensure safety). We also offer belay courses for those interested in taking their climbing further and gain access to the whole facility.

They wanted to provide a high quality, safe and fun place for all levels of climbers, to help shift climbing away from being a fringe sport for “crazy daredevils” and into the mainstream.
