Program Description

Minimum age to take the belay course is 14.

No experience is required to climb on our bouldering walls or autobelays.  If you want to use our roped climbs, you will have to pass our belay test or take our belay course.

At Spirit Rock, if you already know how to belay, your belay test is free.

If you do not know how to belay, you will need to take a belay course before you can use the roped climbs. Belaying is one of the most important skills to learn in climbing, yet is actually a relatively fast and straightforward process.  Knot tying, rope management and safe, secure belaying and lowering are all part of the course.

The belay course is $19 and takes approximately 45 minutes.

*If you don’t know what belaying is, read on:

“Belaying refers to a variety of techniques climbers use to exert tension on a climbing rope so that a falling climber does not fall very far.[1] A climbing partner typically applies tension at the other end of the rope whenever the climber is not moving, and removes the tension from the rope whenever the climber needs more rope to continue climbing.” - Wikipedia
